I don’t know if all roofing companies do this, but I was relieved that Harlan QR took care of other problems too. They fixed the dry rot on my roof. And there was a lot of it on my 40 year old condo. I don’t know when it was last done. Then they added new gutters and downspouts that I desperately needed. Rain was gushing over the main gutter I had. Last but not least I got gutter screens on the two new gutters closest to my fir tree that sheds pine needles like crazy. I was glad to get all these jobs done by the same company. I didn’t have to find other companies to do the work. Time is valuable to me. I feel I got great value for my money. And the staff is all great-from the crew to Brittney in the office to Frank who oversees the work. Very professional and courteous. I appreciated that Frank came out to help me decide where my new gutters and downspouts should go. He had good suggestions. And he left me a sample of the gutter screens so I could see the mesh is very tight. I had a bad experience in another house because the mesh was open and let in a lot of leaves and debris. So far so good between the new gutters/downspouts and gutter screens after the recent downpour we had last Sunday! One last thing! I appreciated that Frank didn’t try to sell me on more gutter screens than I wanted or thought I needed.

In addition to fixing the rot they made preventative repairs so I won’t have the same issue. While fixing my original problem they discovered a pipe vent that didn’t have the proper flashing and would definitely leak in the near future, they included that repair in my original quote, totally unexpected and very appreciated. The work was completed in 3 days and everything was cleaned up daily. I will use them every time.

I met with James Harlan pre-COVID to discuss options for replacing my roof. James arrived with samples, straight-forward pricing, and an explanation of the process. With the uncertainty of COVID, I had to push off the roof replacement for a couple of years, and while James would occasionally check in from time to time, he was never pushy or aggressive, and I really take to that kind of professionalism. We did get additional bids, and Harlan’s bid wasn’t the highest or the lowest — right in the middle. Even with the rising costs of materials, he was able to keep it as close as possible our original estimate. After signing a contract to replace our roof in April 2022, Harlan Roofing did exactly what they said they’d do. Their workers arrived on time, worked hard, and cleaned up after themselves every day. The entire process took about 3 days from start to finish, including addressing lots of dry rot, which we expected. Their office staff was communicative and pleasant. I also work for a property management company, and I deal with vendors every single day. Harlan Roofing is exactly the type of vendor I love to work with in my profession, and I can’t recommend them enough to any client in need of a roof replacement.

This company is amazing with its honesty, quality work, friendliness and professionalism. This is the way a business should be run. I received quotes from two other companies – one quoted an expensive repair that turned out to be unnecessary, and the other company quoted an insanely ridiculous amount and then essentially stalked me to sign the agreement. It blew my mind how quotes can vary by thousands of dollars for essentially the same work. Harlan quoted me a very reasonable price for what needed to be done now to fix the issue. They offered a second quote for some maintenance work and cleaning that they said could be done in the future and is not a pressing concern. The other companies didn’t even bother to send separate quotes, quoting expensive repairs that weren’t even necessary at the time, and just didn’t provide the overall friendly service that Harlan provided. I accepted Harlan Roofing and they came out and fixed the roof in a timely manner. A week later the roof guy, Cody, who is both very amiable and professional, mentioned he wanted to replace some broken tiles at no extra cost to me. This is a company that really cares about their customers. Lastly, I mailed a check to Harlan to cover the repair and my check was stolen somehow in the mail and was forged for a larger amount of money. The check cleared the bank. I had to go through the trouble of closing my account, dealing with loss prevention, and opening a new account while waiting for my money to be transferred. I mentioned this to Harlan and they said they understand and to not worry and take my time and even offered to come pick the check up from my house when I finally get my new checks in the mail! It was very nice of them to offer that to me although I did not want them to go through the trouble since they weren’t at fault with what happened. Waiting for me to pay while I was dealing with loss prevention was great enough. I highly recommend Harlan. I can’t emphasize this enough. Know that you will be in good hands with a company that cares.

At the time we weren’t quite ready to move forward with the project but I told him we’d reach out again when we were because he was so thorough with the estimate. Going into 2022 I contacted Kaleb again and said we were ready to move forward with the project. Though the price had gone up since the original estimate, it was still very competitive with the current market. We were happy to sign and move forward with Harlan Quality Roofing. They had our entire roof replaced with some dry rot repairs in just TWO days! The office staff was also great throughout this process, answering my questions in a very timely and respectful manner. This was my first experience with replacing a roof and it was a learning experience. I interviewed 7 roofing companies before hiring Harlan Quality Roofing for the project. I have heard that you should get at least 3 estimates for projects like these but I’m glad I got 7 proposals because it allowed me to learn of the wide range of products and options on the market. There was about a $10,000 difference between the low and high end of proposals I received from the 7 different companies. There were a few reasons I chose Harlan. First, Kaleb from Harlan Roofing was friendly and very easy to work with. He answered all my questions and concerns. I felt comfortable with a few of the reps I interviewed but not all were as thorough as Kaleb in questioning my intentions for the home and budget limits. Not all reps went up on the roof to measure and inspect. An example of honesty is that Kaleb explained about the chimney saddle on my roof which I had no idea what it was. He explained it was a custom job and replacing it would really be downgrading. The saddle was in good condition so no reason to replace it saving a bit of money. No one else mentioned the saddle. Also, I noticed the majority of the reps provided proposals that only gave one manufacturer, no options for you to pick and one price. Not Harlan. Kaleb provided a more detailed proposal that listed a manufacturer’s standard roofing costs and options, and the more expensive tiles and options so you can see all pricings. He made recommendations on the tile manufacturer although Harlan sells and installs tiles from the same manufacturers that the other companies offer. They, like the others have their preference. A couple reps tried to upsell me on decking and other things that were not necessary and the explanation for why it was better made no sense to me. That was confirmed as I spoke to Kaleb and other reps comparing their answers and doing my research online. There was never any pressure from Harlan and I took a few days to make my decision. I think that initial interaction is very important so that you feel comfortable that you made a good choice. I can tell you not all reps were so gracious. I did have to wait a few weeks for the work to begin but that seemed common among all the companies I spoke with. Plus, we had a few rain days that pushed it out. Once I got the call with the start date, it took 3 days for the work to complete. The first crew came in and ripped off the old roofing material, threw everything into a dumpster, and cleaned up. A bit of advice though, have them tarp off everything in the garage if you have an open ceiling and have skip board decking. I failed to do that and had some cleanup afterwards in the garage. But the crew threw tarp down all around the home and places I asked to be covered. As soon as the removal was done, the next crew and materials arrived. Everyone I spoke to in the process, on the job, and at the office was friendly and answered my questions. The crews arrived early, got to work promptly and put in a full day. And at the end of each day, cleaned up afterwards. Of course, the real test is the next good rainstorm but I’m confident that Harlan’s employees did a good job. In the end, it was a good experience, the new roof looks great and I would recommend Harlan to anyone.

A few leaking windows prompted my to make an appointment with Harlan Quality Roofing following the storm we had a few weeks ago. After an appointment was made, Harlan’s customer service was great in keeping me updated if earlier appointment times were available. On the day of the inspection, I received a call from their technician Cody to let me know precisely when he would arrive. Cody was very polite and gave me a thorough summary of the condition of my roof along with my gable vent. Not only that, he also gave me a few pointers on things to look out for in the future. Thankfully, my roof turns out to be in great shape. Much to my surprise, Cody said the inspection did not cost anything. Not wanting him to leave with nothing to show for his time, I asked if he can seal up my gable vent since this is another possible source of water ingress. This way I can at least pay him something for his time. Cody sealed up the gable vent quickly and sent me a few “before and after” pictures of his work. He even offered me a discounted rate for the vent sealing! Overall, I’m very impressed with the entire process working with Harlan Quality Roofing, from making an appointment to the actual inspection. They have great customer service communication, their technicians were on time, they are honest with their work, and the prices are more than fair. Great job, you guys!

Like many homeowners when we need a new roof we get multiple bids. From the start Harlan Quality Roofing was impressive. Kaleb was on time for our first appointment, I really liked him. He went over their process, step by step for my new roof. He answered all the questions I had at the time and we schedule an appointment for him to come back to review the bid. Again, Kaleb was on time for our review. He went throughly went through the bid, answered more of my questions and was very knowledgeable. I had a-lot of concerns with all the dry rot work ($) the owner came to put my mind at ease, wood prices were very high at the time. Two days prior to the work starting, Frank called, he gave me the step by step process and timeframe. One day prior to the work Frank came by, we again discussed the steps and timeframe. Day of, the roof removal fellas showed up, very professional and went right to work, before they left they did a great job of cleaning up. Later that day the supplies arrived for the roof. The next morning the roofer showed up, on time and right to work. These gentleman bust their butts off in the hot sun. I had a lot of dry rot they had to repair, but like any well oiled machine, while dry rot was being replaced the others were working on replacing the roof. At the end of the day, they cleaned up, picking up anything off the ground as well as running a magnet around my property to get any nails or metal off the grass, driveway & flower beds. My roof took 2 1/2 days, this team was great, very respectful, they took the time to make sure my property was clean and tidy at the end of the day and at the end of the job. Through out the day other Harlan associates stopped by, brought supplies or drinks for these guys. I had a cooler of bottled water for them, but they were reluctant to help themselves. At the end of the job, Frank went over the process what was done and the final city inspection. Their trailer was in my driveway and on cue another Harlan associate, pulled up , backed up and took the trailer. Harlan took care of everything all I had to do was pay. The ladies in the office, Brittney & Marisa, we great to deal with as well. This is a QUALITY company and I 100% recommended them.

I consulted with other roofing contractors and Harlan beat everybody with great pricing and a quality product. I couldn’t believe that they were able to get my roof done in one and a half days. So, far I’m just writing up a review on James’ of Harlan Quality Roofing RFQ consultation about my roofing issues. I had a major leak in May 2015 and to say the least the company that did the water remediation and roofing repairs turned out to be a one star outfit. I will never use ServPro again though that’s the company my insurance agent pointed me to and the repairs are still under warranty. I had one other company come out to inspect the problem area, which by the way is still leaking, just not enough to come through the ceiling like last time. The gentleman seemed knowledgeable and found the major leak issue and gave me an estimate. However, he only looked at the one spot. James, however, assessed the one trouble spot and then did a whole roof inspection, found several other issues that needed addressing, such as cracked tiles, plugged up valleys, etc. He even knew the brand name and color of the tiles on my roof, which are 18 years old and no longer in production. He said he can find them in ‘boneyards’ for building materials and it shouldn’t be a problem to replace the broken tiles. He did all of this for free, gave me a bid of $300 below the first bidder, and was very polite and thorough. I would recommend giving him a call for your roofing service needs By the way, he got the job… I will update later as work starts and finishes. UPDATE: 12/28/2016 Jerry and two other workmen came out and did a complete roof tune up. Not only fixing the leak issue by replacing correct roof jacks, etc. They also found 4 cracked tiles which someone had tried to repair improperly with what looked like an epoxy of some sort. Those titles were replaced. All moss stripped and gutters and valleys cleaned. Sliding tiles were reset and all for $854. This is a company you cannot afford not to use. The workmanship and speed at which they did it was unbelievable. They were here and done in three hours where most other companies probably would have sent one or two guys and they would have been here all day. I definitely recommend them and will be using them on my 91 yr. old mother’s roof shortly.
